Tia Brown Black born and raised in Durham, North Carolina. She and her family reside in southern Durham. Although she resides in Durham she represents clients in many counties throughout the state.
Mrs. Brown Black graduated from North Carolina A&T State University with bachelor degrees in both English and Political Science. Mrs. Brown Black then graduated from North Carolina Central University School of Law. During her law school tenure she had prestigious internships. She worked in New Jersey at the law firm of Brown and Childress where she practiced employment law. Mrs. Brown Black also worked in Florida for the law firm of Gary, Williams, Parenti, Lewis, McManus, Watson and Sperando where she practiced civil litigation.
After becoming a member of the North Carolina State Bar in 2002, She began working at the Public Defender’s office for the 14th judicial district and since 2003 has been engaged in private practice in Durham and surrounding counties. She is a member of the North Carolina State Bar, North Carolina Bar Association, 14th Judicial State Bar, United States District Bar - Middle District, and United States District Bar - Eastern District.
Mrs. Brown Black has both bench and jury trial experience. She represents clients in both District and Superior Court matters.
When she is not practicing law, Mrs. Brown Black loves spending time with her family and being active in her community. Amongst other things, she volunteers with her church’s youth organization, and she volunteers for Legal Aid of North Carolina. She is also a Durham Wayfinder and volunteers at the Durham Performing Arts Center.
